William Edgar George Hopkins was born in 1916 to Granville Pinniger Hopkins and Clara Florence Hopkins and lived in Cockfosters. He attended the City of London School and was the husband of Agnes Mackenzie Hopkins A.C.I.I..

He served as a Bombardier in the Royal Artillery 166 (Newfoundland) Field Regiment. He was killed in action in Italy on 11th May 1944. He is buried at Sangro River cemetery XV E 30. His grave bears the inscription from Psalm 16:11 'In thy presence is full of joy'.
