My grandfather, John Chambers, died on 25 March 1918. He was born in Sheffield, and worked as a hair brush maker. He had a son, he never saw, who was born on 1 June 1917.

In 1992 his son, my father John Chambers, myself, and my son Matthew John, all visited the Arras memorial where he is commemorated. It was a very poignant trip as this was the first time my father had visited the area where his father was killed.

Subsequently in 2018, I visited again with my son, and grandson Maxwell John, to ensure his story and sacrifice is not forgotten.
