Joseph Rowe was born on Sat 09 Feb 1929 to Joseph Henry Rowe (03 Feb 1901-12 Jan 1941) a coal miner putter and Gladys Rowe (b.31 Dec 1902 nee Thorpe) at 16 James Street, Blaydon. His parents were married in 1920. He had an older brother John Charles who was born in the same year on 14 Sep 1920.

He joined the army on 10 April 1947 and was described as 5’3’’ tall and 106lbs with brown hair and grey eyes and his religious denomination was Church of England. With regards to distinctive marks, it was mentioned that the big toe on his left foot was missing.

He served as a signalman with the Royal Corps of Signals 11 Wireless Sqn at Uniacke barracks, Harrogate. He died on 15 November 1947 age 18 years in Harrogate general hospital from pneumonia.

Buried at Blaydon Cemetery section H grave 241.
