5682626 PRIVATE R.S.STONE PARACHUTE REGIMENT ARMY AIR CORPS Date Of Death: 15th April 1945. Age: 23. A lawn grave. The headstone is clean, legible & stable. It is in good condition. The grave is flat with no signs of sinkage. *As per a group of other graves in this area of Chiseldon cemetery, to call it a lawn grave, is a misnomer. It is located under a tree canopy, where grass struggles to gain a hold. A mud grave would be more accurate. Plant a low, ground hugging evergreen perennials, to give some cover and stop mud splashback? But to try and keep these graves, neat, clean and tidy in this corner of Chiseldon cemetery is difficult and not befitting of these souls that gave their lives, whilst in uniform. I am not suggesting asking for the trees to be removed, but a better solution for these graves need to be found. On entering the cemetery, head to the right hand side of the cemetery boundary and down the row of CWGC graves, where a row of 4 graves, sit in front of the long row. It is this area that is problematic.
