Edward was born on 3rd March 1889, the eldest son of Charles Augustus and Lady Maybelle Egerton, he was educated at Eton and came up to Oxford in the Hilary Term of 1907.
After going down in 1909, he joined the 17th Lancers, and served in India, and appears to have been with them in attendance at the Coronation Durbar. After the death of his father in 1912, he inherited Mountfield Court, Robertsbridge. Sussex. Edward arrived in France in November 1914 as a Lieutenant, and was later promoted to Captain on 18th December the same year.
He died in Düring, Lower Saxony, Germany from wounds received in action in Arras, and he buried Habarcq Communal Cemetery Extension Plot VIII E 3, he is also commemorated in All Saints Church, Mountfield. Sources: www.ancestry.co.uk 17th Lancers War Diary
