Civilian Ada Smith was born 30th of September 1888.

The 1939 Register finds her living with husband Alfred at Prinkle Cottage, Dallington. Alfred, born the 9th of May 1889 is a chauffeur, private service. 

At 17.00 hours on the 7th of July, 1944, a V-1 “Doodlebug” was shot down by a fighter and crashed at Prinkle Farm.

Ada Smith, aged 55, the wife of Alfred Douglas Smith, at Prinkle Cottage was killed.

Her body was taken to Battle Mortuary, another female casualty was taken to the Buchanan Hospital, Hastings.

Prinkle farmhouse and fifty other properties, including shops, were slightly damaged.

Ada is buried at Dallington (St Giles) churchyard beneath a wooden cross. Alfred survived the incident and died in 1959.
