George William Barnes was born in 1915 and his parents were living at The Bungalow, Swallowfield - near Heckfield, Hampshire. His parents were William Edward Barnes and Letitia Maud Davidson who were married in 1906 in Andover and at that time William was living at The Malt House in Heckfield.

George was one of seven children. Cyril born in 1907, Reginald in 1908, Doris in 1910, Albert in 1913, George in 1915, Joan in 1918 and Robert in 1922.

George served with the RAF in WW2 and was stationed at Mount Batten in Devon with Coastal Command. He was accidentally shot on the 19th July 1940 whilst on a detachment to Fowey in Cornwall.

He is buried in the St. Michael's Heckfield Churchyard (Extension) alongside his brother, Albert, who had died in 1937 and his brother, Robert, who died in 2003.
