Buried in Cambridge City Cemetery rests the body of Flight Sergeant Edgar Albert Madsen of the Royal Australian Air Force.
Edgar was a Pilot and after arriving in England at Number 11 Personnel Despatch and Reception Centre at Bournemouth on the 28th November 1942, he proceeded to Number 22 Elementary Flying Training School at Cambridge.
He fell seriously ill and was admitted to Papworth Sanitorium suffering with Pulmonary Tuberculosis on the 16th June 1943. He succumbed to this illness on the 1st Jul 1943.
Edgar was known as Jack and was the Son of Lars Frederic and Eva May Madsen (nee Kavanagh), of Kingsford, New South Wales. Australia. He was born in Narrabri, New South Wales on the 12th July 1920. His father Lars, died in 1940 and his mother died in 1947. Jack was buried in Cambridge City Cemetery on the 5th July 1943.
Jack’s brother, Fred, also served in the RAAF as a Pilot and was awarded a DFC while serving on 459 Squadron which primarily operated in North Africa. He survived the War.
