Douglas Christopher Edwards was born in August 1908 in Swallowfield, Berkshire - his parents were Harry Edwards and Louisa Edwards (formerly Coffin) who had married in 1891. His father Harry died in 1910 and Louisa married George Graham in Hartley Wintney in 1913. The family were living at nearby Heckfield during this time.
In 1938, Douglas was living at 23 Gosbrook Road, Caversham in Reading with his married sister Louise and her husband. During WW2 he served with the 173 Bty, 523 Coast Regt, Royal Artillery and he died on the 22nd September 1943 aged 35.
[Louisa and the family suffered terrible losses in WW1, her son Percy Edwards served with the Hampshire Regiment and died in the Balkans in September 1918 and in November that same year another son Sidney who also served with the Hampshire Regiment died at home of bronchial pneumonia. She had already lost her second husband George Graham in 1915 while he was serving in France with the Essex Regiment. Percy, Sidney and George are remembered on the war memorial in the church in Heckfield and Sidney is buried in the churchyard. Louisa married Jessie Baker in 1918 and the family lived in Reading and after her death in 1931 the family continued to live in Reading.]
