PRIVATE ANTHONY JENNINGS Service Number: 2386 King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) 2nd/5th Bn. Died 04 February 1915 Age 44 years old grave ref B. RC. 243. Son of John and Bridget Jennings; husband of the late Maria Jennings.
Born at Lancaster. Anthony was born in 1871 and lived initially in Aldrens Lane, he then lived in China Lane until he married Maria MacAlpine (Born in Dublin in 1867) when he moved to Albert Square Bridge lane Lancaster. He was a masons Labourer at this time.
By 1911 he was labouring at Williamsons, and lived at James Street. Maria died in approx. 1913. He appears to have been a Volunteer and terrier before the war as early as 1908 (see the Welsh paper attached), he states he served 7 years when he re-enlisted in 1914, and he gives his address as Dennis street.
As Kevin Shannon points out in "the Lion and the Rose vol 3" he took 10 years off his age to re-enlist (the unit must have connived at this) and sadly died at Blackpool of Pneumonia.
His effects were left to his sister Bridget as there were no children.
His file has survived and contains a letter from Bridget and mentions his death Plaque and scroll. Bridget lived at 40 leonardsgate.
