PRIVATE G WEBSTER Service Number: 45252 Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) 16th Bn. Died 04 May 1918 Age 38 years old Lancaster cemetery F. NC. 72. Son of John and Bessie Webster; husband of Agnes E. Webster, of 18, Garnet St., Dry Dock, Lancaster. Born at Lancaster.

Born in 1880 George was educated at Lancaster National school and Maudsley street school Blackburn. He was a Boer War veteran and held a Queens South Africa Medal with 5 clasps earned whilst serving with 1 Cameron Highlanders.

He was a well-known footballer and sportsman, Playing for Vale of Lune RFC and was a member of Lancaster Swimming club.

He was also a former Artillery volunteers Sgt-Major. In civil life he worked at Williamsons Lino works.

 He died of Pneumonia in a Scottish Military hospital (Stobhill)

. Sadly, his little son George died earlier in 1918.He also had another son, John Allen Webster.
