PRIVATE James LEAK Service Number: 11388 Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) Died 10 December 1918 N. CE. 567.
Born in 1883, James married Jane Parkes in 1905.He worked at White cross mills and on the outbreak of war he joined the West Riding Regiment -9th Bn- and was later awarded a Military medal (London gazette 21 October 1916.)
Taken prisoner in the German spring offensive in March 1918 and wounded, James was later repatriated. He died in Hospital in London of his wounds (He was wounded in the back and was paralysed.)
In addition to the MM James was awarded the British War and Victory medals. His widow remarried but remained in the local area.
