Peter was born in 1887 in Dundee, Angus, to Peter and Helen, and the family were living in Dundee, Angus, in 1891.
He had three brothers and two sisters; he was with the 17th Lancers for eight years serving in India.
Peter was employed by Ballingall & Son Ltd brewers in Dundee on the outbreak of war, when he was mobilised from the reserve and joined the 2nd Life Guards in France on the October 1914.
He was killed in action on 31st October.
His father claimed his son’s medals on the 6th February 1919. Peter is remembered on the Menin Gate, panel 5, Ypres.
On the 30th/31st of October 1914 whilst defending Ypres from German attacks the 7th Cavalry Brigade part of the 3rd Cavalry Division comprising the 3 Household Cavalry regiments Royal Horse Guards, 1st and 2nd Lifeguards were heavily shelled.
