Reginald J Battin was born in 1895 in Littlehampton, Sussex. He was the son of George and Emma. George was a groom. Reginald had 4 brothers: Philip George (born c.1890), Albert (born c.1892), Ronald (born 1897) and Percy (born c.1898)

All of the Battin brothers served in World War One.
[Ronald was a Private in the 12th Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment; sadly he was killed in action of 26th September 1916. Philip, Albert and Percy all served in the merchant navy. They survived.]
Reginald enlisted in the 4th Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment. His service number was TF/200709. He entered into the theatre of war on 8th August 1915.
Reginald was killed in action on 26th March 1917 in Egypt. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial. He was 22 years of age.
Reginald was posthumously awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory medals.
‘Battin Lane’ in Littlehampton is named is memory of Reginald and his brother Ronald.
