Richard was born in Harpurhey, Manchester in 1902 to James Henry (Harry) a baker by trade and Jane of 93 Carisbrook St, Harpurhey, Manchester.
He enlisted on the 19th January 1920, previously working as a general labourer. Richard died in Meerut, on the 4th May 1921 of heat stroke and was buried the next day in the Meerut Cantonment Cemetery vi. 315.
