
Ronald was born on 13 November 1920. He lived with his mother Alice and brother Stanley in Willesden, Middlesex.
Ronald worked as a fitter at Mitral Coach Works before enlisting. He was a member of the 5th Battalion, Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders when he died at the La Roche Offensive, during the Battle of the Bulge.
The town of La Roche-en-Ardennes was taken over by German forces on 21 December 1944. The Allied counterattack commenced on 3 January 1945 and It was liberated on 11 January 1945, the day Ronald was killed. He was 24 years old.
He was initially buried in Ronchamps Belgium Temporary Burial Ground, Luxembourg, Belgium. Post war he was recovered and reburied in CWGC Hotton War Cemetery on 22 May 1947 in plot IX.A.8.
His name is also commemorated on the La Roche-en-Ardenne memorial to the fallen of the 51st Highland Division who gave their lives in the La Roche offensive.
