Thomas George Phillips was born in April 1897 in Hazeley Heath, near Mattingley in Hampshire. His parents were Charles Phillips and Annie Marie Brooker.

In the 1901 census the family are living in Hazeley Heath and Charles is a Brickmaker.

In the 1911 census they are still living in Hazeley Heath, at Fir Tree Cottage, and Charles is a Brickyard Foreman, Thomas is still at school.

Thomas joined the Hampshire Regiment and died of his wounds on the 29th April 1918. He is remembered on the War Memorial in Mattingley Church.
