Frederick Augustus Abberley was born in London on 13th October 1886. He was the son of Georges and Elisabeth Abberley, and had two brothers George and Henry.

Prior to the war, he married Ellen and had two children, Frederick Augustus born on May 6th 1914 who unfortunately died on November 31st 1918 and Ellen Maud born on November 9th 1915.

He joined the 1st battalion of the Rifle Brigade and took part in the Battle of the Somme. His battalion took part on an attack to take a German Trench on October 23th 1916 at 2.30 pm between Morval and Lesboeufs. A part of the position was secured by the end of the day, but the overall objective was not complete. His battalion went into action with 525 men and suffered 122 casualties.

Frederick Augustus Abberley was killed that day, he was 31 years old. He is commemorated in Thiepval Anglo-French cemetery, grave II. H. 10.
