Rifleman 374789 Percival Stanbridge 8th (City of London) Battalion (Post Office Rifles)...

...was born 1898 at Boxley the son of Percy Stanbridge and Harriet Alice Humphrey.

In 1901 he was with the family at Pauls Hill, Leigh. Percival aged 28 is a stockman on the farm, born at Ticehurst. Harriet aged 25 was born at Flimwell. Children recorded are Percival aged 2 and George aged “0” born at Leigh, Kent.

The 1911 census finds him with his family at Pipsden Cottage, Hawkhurst. Percival (senior) aged 38 is a domestic gardener. Harriet aged 34 . The couple have been married for fourteen years and have produced three children, all still alive. Percival William aged 12 born at Boxley, George Ernest aged 10 born at Leigh and Norah Alice aged 4 born at Hawkhurst.

Percival enlisted at Hawkhurst and was killed in action in Belgium on the 10th of November 1917 aged 19.

He has no known grave and is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial and in Hawkhurst (St Laurence) churchyard on the grave of his sister Norah who died the 8th of July 1929 aged 22.
