
Sergeant 742235 James Alan Buck, 43 Squadron, Tangmere, was the husband of Rene Broadbent Barton, whom he had married at Barton, Lancashire in the winter of 1939, and the son of William Alexander and Ellen Buck of 30 St Hilda’s Road, Old Trafford, Manchester.
James Buck had joined the RAFVR before the war and following call up and flying training, joined 43 squadron in early 1940 and had seen action over France.
On the 19th of July 1940 at 17.15, flying Hurricane P3531, he was shot down off Selsey Bill, possibly by Fw Lehman of III/JG27. James baled out wounded but drowned aged 24.
He is buried in Stretford Cemetery, Lancashire in a private family grave upon which is named William - died 14th April 1948 aged 83 and Ellen died 18th March 1954 aged 77. Also his brother Flight Lieutenant (Pilot) 120985 Herbert Arnold Buck, killed in a flying accident, 27th April 1945 aged 31.
