Wilfred was educated at Wrekin College, Shropshire between 1930-1935 and the son of Frederick Clark and Elizabeth Mercedes Clark, Barcelona, Spain. On leaving school he went out to South Africa to join the BSA Police.

However, on the outbreak of war he returned to England and joined the RAF. Much of his flying training was undertaken in the USA and in Canada, where he obtained his “wings". Returning to this country he was posted to 12 Squadron and at the time of his last flight was pilot of a Lancaster bomber.

His aircraft, Lancaster III ED714 [PH-K], took off from RAF Wickenby on the night of 13th April for operations over Germany and failed to return having crashed in the vicinity of Le Mans (Sarthe) France where the crew are all buried together.
