
Robert Kerr was the son of John and Margaret Kerr of Glasgow.
He enlisted with the Black Watch (The Royal Highland Regiment), volunteering for airborne duties. He was sent to RAF Ringway, Manchester for parachute training on 21 May 1944, completing the course 8 June with an excellent report.
He was posted to B Company, 5 Platoon, 5 Section, 12th (10th Bn. The Green Howards (Yorkshire Rgt.)) Bn., The Parachute Regiment.
His company took part in Operation Varsity, the airborne component for the Rhine Crossing on 24 March 1945. Robert was killed that day during the daylight parachute drop and buried in the field at Hamminkeln, Germany. Robert was 28 years old when he died
Post war, Robert was recovered and reburied in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, plot 41.B.11. on 14 November 1946.
