Gerald was educated at Wrekin College, Shropshire, the son of Robert Gerald Johnson & Dorothy Catherine Johnson of Endon, Staffordshire.
He was the second Old Wrekinian [OW] to be killed in action on Tuesday 9 November 1943, the other being Sapper Kenneth Cartwright in Italy. Gerald was 27 when he died and lies within Heliopolis War Cemetery, Cairo, Egypt.
He was joined by a fellow OW comrade, Major David Wright who tragically died in 1946 after the war had ended.
